The City of Indianapolis has an open container policy. Meaning you can drink as you walk around downtown. You must finish anything you have before going into a spot. Only exercise this privilege if you are an adult who can find a trash can when you finish.Traffic may be congested downtown at rush hour, but at other times of day it's really not bad. Be aware that there are a certain number of one-way streets, plus lane blockages due to construction. Plan out your route ahead of time and leave extra time for getting lost, stuck in traffic, etc. Watch out for pedestrians. I think Fort Wayne would be up your alley more. Indy is definitely more left leaning. I personally prefer that, but while Fort Wayne is far from the most red place in Indiana, it's definitely moreso than Indy.
